Founded in 1952 by Reverend Everett Swanson, Compassion International began with a single act of obedience — caring for 35 orphaned children in South Korea in the aftermath of the Korean War. Today, Compassion is the world's largest Christian child development organization, working in partnership with more than 8,000 local churches across 29 countries to release over 2 million children from poverty.
Compassion's model is unique: every sponsored child is connected to a local church in their community, where they receive holistic care — education, healthcare, nutrition, and spiritual development — from people who know them by name.
